Our History

Bahrain’s Trusted Money Exchange Company Since 1993

Our Journey

For over three decades, NEC has been a cornerstone of trusted money exchange in Bahrain. As the first Western Union agent in the Kingdom of Bahrain, NEC helped pioneer the global remittance business across the Middle East, laying the foundation for what is today a trusted name in money exchange in Bahrain.

1993: Founded as Nonoo Exchange Company. Registered with MOIC and approved by the Central Bank of Bahrain as a licensed Money Changer. Became Bahrain’s first Western Union agent.
2010: Corporate Restructuring. Changed legal status from Sole Proprietor (S.P) to Bahrain Stock Company Closed (B.S.C. Closed), reflecting the company’s growth into a mature, respected financial services provider.
2014: Rebrand to NEC. Unveiled a new corporate identity, positioning the company for its next phase of growth in currency exchange and money transfer services.
Today: A Trusted Name Across Bahrain. NEC continues to operate as a Central Bank of Bahrain-licensed money changer, offering currency exchange, Bahrain money transfer via Western Union, gold, and corporate payroll solutions across multiple branches.

License by the Central Bank of Bahrain

When NEC was originally founded in 1993, we were registered with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC) and approved by the Central Bank of Bahrain as a licensed Money Changer. And we’ve held this license for over three decades without interruption.

This licensing means every currency exchange and money transfer transaction at NEC is conducted under the Kingdom’s national financial compliance framework, including anti-money-laundering (AML) controls and customer due diligence standards.
